U.S. and Israel take military action against Iran; Christian leaders comment

Last week, following President Trump's State of the Union address, Harmoz Shariat, Founder and President of Iran Alive Ministries, issued a statement in response; in it, he said: "Iranians do not want negotiations. Why? The government of Iran is a deceiver and a liar, and they have proven that even if they sign an agreement, they will not follow through with it.  If history has taught us anything, why should we trust Iran’s leadership to make good on their word and honor negotiations today?" He added: "“For the greater good of humanity and the people of Iran, my message is the same: President Trump, please intervene. Listen to the people of Iran. Make good on your promise to provide aid before it’s too late.”

His comments echoed those made by Lana Silk, President and CEO of Transform Iran, who , on The Meeting House on Faith Radio, also called for assistance from the United States.

Over the weekend, it was announced that the United States, in partnership with Israel, had attacked a number of sites throughout Iran.  The Iranians responded by launching counterattacks on a number of neighboring countries, including an American base in Bahrain.  In an address early Saturday morning, according to The Christian Post, President Trump provided a report and said this: "...to the great proud people of Iran, I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand," adding, "When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations.'

National Religious Broadcasters President and CEO Troy Miller posted on X, referencing a resolution passed by NRB at its recent convention: "We called for urgent prayer for the Iranian people and 'support for the U.S. presidential administration’s efforts, whether through military or diplomatic means, to take immediate action to protect the Iranian people.' That operation is now underway. May God's hand protect and guide our brave military as they work to eliminate this evil regime and free the Iranian people. May God protect Israel as they bear the brunt of Iran's counterattack."

Franklin Graham, in an X post, said: "Thank you President @realDonaldTrump for giving the Iranian people a chance to be free. Pray for him and for all those in our military who are risking their lives to protect America and bring freedom to the Iranian people. This regime has been killing Americans for years, and we haven’t had a president who had the guts to take them on. Thank you Mr. President for standing up to bring this evil empire to an end." He also stated: "Pray for our military in the operation against Iran, for President @realDonaldTrump, and that the people of Iran will be set free from the bondage of Islam."

President cites "Divine Hand of Providence" in State of the Union message

President Trump delivered his State of the Union address to Congress, at least a majority of that total body, on Tuesday night.  Some chose to boycott his message and hold alternative events.  Others chose to sit on their hands while the President highlighted his accomplishments.  One particular memorable moment had to do with his opposition to illegal immigration - The Christian Post stated: "...the president asked lawmakers to stand if they agreed with a statement asserting that 'the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.'”   To the large number of lawmakers who did not stand, he said, "You should be ashamed of yourself."  This resulted in two lawmakers shouting back at the President.

But, the President did address matters of faith in his speech.  The article said: "Trump also talked about a religious resurgence in the U.S. during his speech: 'I’m very proud to say that during my time in office, both the first four years and in particular, this last year, there has been a tremendous renewal in religion, faith, Christianity and belief in God.'”  He said that this renewal was especially prevalent among young people and recognized Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Charlie Kirk, who was present for the speech.

The article related: "During the president's speech, the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States was repeatedly mentioned, and he insisted that 'our destiny is written by the hand of Providence.'”  Trump said: "In Charlie’s memory, we must all come together to reaffirm that America is one nation under God, and we must totally reject political violence of any kind. We love religion, and we love bringing it back, and it’s coming back at levels that nobody actually thought possible.”

Organization formerly known as Boy Scouts of America makes revisions

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced last week that the organization, Scouting America, which used to be known as the Boy Scouts of America, a once-proud organization that has been decimated by its failure to abide by time-honored principles consistent with Scripture, has agreed to make some changes.  A WORLD Magazine article said that the Secretary "...criticized the organization’s decisions to admit girls, shift focus away from the Christian faith, and adopt gender ideology. He added that he hoped it would one day shift back to only admitting boys. Those changes caused Scouts membership to drop from 10 million in the 1970s to less than 1 million today, he said."

Moving forward, according to the article, members will be "classified" by "biological sex." Also, WORLD reported: "The organization will not allow opposite sexes to share intimate spaces, such as tents, he said. It has also pledged to walk back so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in compliance with an executive order issued by President Donald Trump, he said. Leaders also committed to waive fees for children of military families and introduce a military service merit badge, Hegseth said."

The Secretary said he was giving Scouting America six months to show progress toward accomplishing these goals or lose Pentagon funding.  WORLD notes: "While the department doesn’t directly fund the Scouts, it currently hosts Scout troops on many of its bases and gives pay raises to Eagle Scouts in the military."
