Pregnancy care centers show wider reach, according to new survey in advance of SCOTUS hearing
In advance of oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday in a case involving the Attorney General of New Jersey issuing subpeonas to a group of five pregnancy resource centers requesting intrusive information, the Charlotte Lozier Institute has released a study of the growth of pregnancy care centers in the aftermath of the Dobbs decision in 2022, according to an article at the Washington Times website.
The report showed that for the first time, "The number of new clients surpassed 1 million in 2024..." There are now almost 2800 such centers "including bricks-and-mortar facilities and mobile units, with locations in all 50 states." The article noted that "the findings underscore the results of a Lozier peer-reviewed 2023 study showing that 60% of women with a history of abortion would have preferred to give birth had they received more emotional or financial support."

The latest report found that pro-life pregnancy centers provided an estimated $452 million in material goods and services in 2024, up from $365 million in 2022. Goods and services are typically provided free of charge.
The value of the material goods alone, which include baby clothes, diapers, infant formula, car seats and cribs, rose to $116 million, a 48% increase from 2022.
Services include counseling, education, medical procedures such as ultrasounds, STD/STI testing and treatment, and abortion pill reversals.

Oregon teachers settle with school district
Two educators in an Oregon school district who had spoken out against gender policy and had been suspended, then terminated, have received a positive court outcome. Alliance Defending Freedom announced online recently that Rachel Sager and Katie Medart "...reached a favorable settlement with a school district that violated their free speech, religious freedom, and equal protection rights. As part of the settlement, Grants Pass School District agreed to pay $650,000 in damages and attorneys’ fees, issue a public statement acknowledging that the educators’ wrongful termination fell short of its standards and responsibilities, provide positive letters of recommendation for both teachers, revise the district’s policy to comply with the First Amendment, and remove negative references from their personnel files.
ADF Legal Counsel Mathew Hoffmann is quoted as saying: “The Grants Pass School District is taking the right step by acknowledging that teachers don’t give up their First Amendment rights when they set foot on school property. Public schools can’t retaliate against speech simply because they disagree with what’s said.”
Sager and Medart have launched an effort called "I Resolve," that has issued proposals, according to a CBN.com report: "...allow teachers to abide by their conscience and refrain from using pronouns inconsistent with a student's biological sex. 'I Resolve' advocates for locker rooms, showers, and restrooms to be designated consistent with their DNA-based gender. It also endorses and gives students the option to request access to private restrooms and locker rooms..." according to Alliance Defending Freedom and Pacific Justice Institute, which represented the teachers.

Prayer before football game between 2 Christian schools will still not be allowed
Back in 2015, two private Christian schools faced one another at Orlando's Citrus Bowl in a state championship football game. One of the schools desired to pray on the loudspeaker prior to the game, but permission was denied, according to an article on the First Liberty website. The Florida High School Athletic Association said that since the stadium was owned by the city and the FHSAA was a "government actor," that the prayer would be unconstitutional. Cambridge Christian School, one of the participants, challenged the policy in court.
Fast-forward to 2019, when the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals allowed the case to proceed. In 2022, a lower court ruled against the school, and the 11th Circuit upheld that ruling. In response, according to First Liberty, the Florida legislature passed a bill "guaranteeing two minutes of opening remarks—which may include prayer—to each team before a high school sporting event in Florida." Recently the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case.
Jeremy Dys, Senior Counsel at First Liberty Institute, said: “The Eleventh Circuit’s decision to label the prayer as government speech abandons the foundational promises of the First Amendment that are meant to guarantee individual freedom..."
