Appeals court upholds Planned Parenthood de-funding
In what has been known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill" passed by Congress, there was a provision for Planned Parenthood to be defunded for one year. While there was opposition in the pro-life community regarding the length of time, having advocated for a longer term, this is still a major step forward.
But, of course, Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider did what it normally does when it doesn't get its way: it went to court. And, according to Liberty Counsel's website, "the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 that the federal government can enforce the portion of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” that cuts Medicaid funding to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood while the legal case continues." The website added: "The decision allows the government to bar tax-exempt organizations that perform abortions and had received more than $800,000 in reimbursements in 2023 from receiving further Medicaid funds."
Liberty Counsel noted: "The ruling aligns with the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which permitted South Carolina to defund Planned Parenthood from Medicaid."

Boys who complained about girl in their locker room exonerated
I have reported to you in the past about three boys who were in the boys' locker room in a high school in Loudoun County, VA when a girl came in with a camera and began filming. According to The Daily Citizen:
In May, a female student filed Title IX complaints against two boys she had filmed rhetorically asking why she was in the boys locker room.
The girl had been using boys’ facilities under LCPS Policy 8040, which allows students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their “gender identity,” rather than their “biological sex.”

The boys made a comment about the female presence in the locker room - and they got in trouble for it. The article reported:
On August 18, LCPS concluded two of the boys’ comments constituted sexual harassment and sex-based discrimination under Title IX. One student was given a ten-day suspension, with additional “corrective action” to be determined in conjunction with faculty.
The other no longer lives in Virginia. His family moved to North Dakota in a futile attempt to prevent LCPS from labeling him a “sexual harasser.”

The U.S. Department of Education investigated the situation, and the Daily Citizen article related:
Its investigation found the school district violated both boys’ Title IX rights by:
- Failing to properly respond to their complaint about a female in the boys locker room.
- Failing to treat both Title IX complaints equally.
- Retaliating against them for reporting sexual harassment.
The DOE has ordered the school district to become compliant with its directives.
VT Christian school team suspended for forfeited games over gender allowed to play again
In 2023, the girls' basketball team at Mid Vermont Christian School forfeited a game - the reason: an opposing team, a girls' team, had a male player. The Vermont Principals' Association instituted a two-year ban on the team from competition.
That's according to a report on the World Magazine website, which states that:
That's according to a report on the World Magazine website, which states that:
The school cited religious conviction in its initial court filing, along with concerns over safety and fairness during the game. The state sport association violated players’ First Amendment rights to religious practice when it expelled the team, the Alliance Defending Freedom, or ADF, argued on behalf of the school.
A lower court had ruled against the school last year, but the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the school; the article said: "...the federal appeals court cited the merit in Mid Vermont’s religious argument. The school was likely to succeed in establishing that state officials acted with hostility toward the team’s religious beliefs..." That is according to a recent order from the appeals court.
World Magazine reported that the appeals court sent the case back down to the lower court; in the meantime, the team will be able to participate in "state-sponsored sports." But the article called into question whether or not the Mid Vermont girls' team can forfeit games if male athletes are included - males are allowed to play in female sports in the state.
